‘Modern Family’

Berwick

My clients had just bought a new home in a leafy outer Melbourne suburb. Initially they were going through the process of building a new home. But plans changed as they often do. They bought an existing home in the desired neighbourhood. The brief was then to modernise the home and to make it feel new.

My clients have young adult children who have busy and transient lives. Between studying, working and travelling, my clients wanted the home to be able to accommodate the family as it expanded and contracted. The open plan living area had good bones. Opening up to a welcoming outdoor area with plunge pool, the neighbouring trees in the distance echo the leafy village like community. It made sense for the colour green to be a starting point for the interiors. A dated stacked brick fireplace surround was replaced with fresh green paint. And the dated cream walls were refreshed in Dulux Natural white.

A cosy large sofa was custom made in a neutral durable fabric and anchored by an earth toned wool rug. A light wood toned coffee table, dining table and occasional leather chair complete the welcoming casual vibe. The green tones are further echoed in the fabric dining chairs which surround a large oval table, perfect for when the family are all together.
